Roy Keane’s Daughter Leah Keane: Who Is Her Footballer Husband?
Being introduced to your girlfriend’s father can be uncomfortable at the best of times.
Being introduced to Roy Keane must be a slightly different experience.
Fortunately for footballer Taylor Harwood-Bellis, things seem to have gone rather well. Not only did he survive meeting one of the most famously demanding captains in Premier League history, he went on to marry Keane’s daughter Leah Keane in 2026.
And if Harwood-Bellis ever needed to prove his football credentials to his future father-in-law, scoring for England against the Republic of Ireland probably wasn’t the most diplomatic way of doing it.
So, who is Leah Keane, who is her footballer husband and what is it really like having Roy Keane as your father-in-law?
Leah Keane Is Roy Keane’s Daughter
Leah is one of the five children Roy Keane has with his wife Theresa.
Unlike her very famous father, Leah has largely remained outside the public spotlight. However, Keane occasionally mentions his children on social media, usually in the same dry style football fans have become used to seeing from him on television.
Leah is apparently known in the Keane household as “Number Four”.
For one of her birthdays, Roy posted a message telling “Number 4” to stop getting so old. On another occasion, after Leah had moved around 180 miles away, he joked that the distance wouldn’t stop him dropping in for a cup of tea.
The final words of the post were particularly Roy Keane:
“Always watching.”
Probably exactly what every daughter’s boyfriend wants to hear.
Who Is Leah Keane’s Husband?
Leah’s husband is Taylor Harwood-Bellis, an England defender who came through Manchester City’s academy.
Harwood-Bellis was born in Stockport in January 2002 and spent much of his early career gaining experience away from City.
Loan spells took him to Blackburn Rovers, Anderlecht, Stoke City and Burnley. He was part of Vincent Kompany’s Burnley team that won the Championship in 2022/23 before joining Southampton.
He initially moved to Southampton on loan before the transfer became permanent.
Harwood-Bellis helped Saints win promotion to the Premier League in 2024 and became an important part of their defence. By the time he left in September 2026, Southampton said he had made 134 appearances and scored 12 goals for the club.
His next move was another big one.
On September 1, 2026, Harwood-Bellis completed a permanent transfer to Aston Villa, putting him back in the Premier League and beginning another chapter for Leah and their young family.
When Did Leah Keane and Taylor Harwood-Bellis Get Married?
Leah and Taylor had reportedly been together for several years before becoming engaged during a trip to the Amalfi Coast in 2024.
They married in May 2026 at Kin House in Wiltshire, with the wedding attended by family and friends.
Leah marked the night before the ceremony with a particularly fitting social media message:
“Last night as a Keane.”
Although presumably Roy would point out that changing your surname doesn’t get you out of family obligations quite that easily.
The couple also have a daughter, Iris, who was born before their wedding.
What Is Roy Keane Like as a Father-in-Law?
This is really the important question.
Imagine turning up at the Keane household for the first time.
Most fathers might ask what you do for work, where you grew up and whether you would like a cup of tea.
Roy Keane spent much of his football career staring at opponents as though they had personally offended him.
Comedian Tommy Tiernan once suggested to Keane that meeting him as his daughter’s boyfriend must be intimidating, joking that it would be like finding Clint Eastwood in the kitchen.
Keane played the idea down, saying people would probably be surprised and that he was actually fairly relaxed about it.
Harwood-Bellis also seems to have found a rather different Roy Keane from the one who once terrorised Premier League midfields.
He has spoken openly about taking advice from Keane, particularly around football and his career.
When Harwood-Bellis received his first senior England call-up in November 2024, he confirmed that his future father-in-law was someone he could turn to for advice.
That is quite a useful person to have available.
You might just have to accept that the advice probably won’t begin with “you’re doing brilliantly”.
Harwood-Bellis Scores Against Roy Keane’s Ireland
Then came perhaps the most awkward possible international debut.
Harwood-Bellis was handed his first England appearance against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley in November 2024.
Roy Keane, winner of 67 Republic of Ireland caps and one of the country’s most famous former captains, was sitting in the ITV studio.
Harwood-Bellis came off the bench.
Then he scored.
England eventually won 5-0.
When presenter Mark Pougatch pointed out that the goalscorer was Keane’s future son-in-law, Roy wasn’t about to get overly sentimental.
He joked that the marriage was not yet guaranteed because things could change very quickly in the Keane household.
Fortunately, he followed it with something approaching the highest possible Roy Keane approval rating.
Keane described Harwood-Bellis as “a nice kid” and praised his family.
Coming from Roy Keane, that may be roughly equivalent to somebody else giving you a ten-minute standing ovation.
From Roy Keane’s Future Son-in-Law to Official Son-in-Law
Harwood-Bellis no longer has to worry about whether the wedding is “done and dusted”.
He and Leah are now married, have a young daughter and have just moved on to the next stage of Harwood-Bellis’s football career with Aston Villa.
There is also something rather fitting about the relationship.
Harwood-Bellis is a centre-back known for leadership and a competitive streak, while Keane built an entire career around demanding more from himself and everybody around him.
More importantly, Harwood-Bellis clearly values Keane’s advice rather than being terrified of asking for it.
That may be the secret.
Because while millions of football fans know Roy Keane as the man capable of reducing a highly paid Premier League player to silence with one look from the ITV studio, Taylor Harwood-Bellis knows him in a rather different role.
He’s simply Roy.
His father-in-law.
Although you’d probably still make sure you weren’t late for Sunday lunch.
